Presenter speaking to a group of Head Start professionals during a breakout session at the WHSA Annual Training Conference

Call for Presenters

WHSA 25th Annual Training Conference

Honoring Our Past. Amplifying Our Future.

Welcome to WHSA’s Call for Presenters for the 25th Annual Training Conference. For 25 years, this conference has brought Wisconsin’s Head Start community together to share ideas and strengthen practice, and this year, we’re looking for practitioners with proven, hands-on solutions to present a breakout session.

Conference Details: Monday–Wednesday, February 22–24, 2027 Kalahari Resort & Convention Center, Wisconsin Dells | Our keynote speakers are confirmed for 2027, details coming soon!

300+ Head Start and early childhood professionals from across Wisconsin.

Focus Areas We’re Prioritizing

  • Staff wellness & sustainability — reflective practice tools that prevent, not just identify, compassion fatigue
  • Complex behavioral support — evidence-based interventions that work in real classrooms with real constraints
  • Challenging conversations — scripts and frameworks for navigating resistance from families, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Technology integration — practical strategies that enhance learning without replacing human connection
  • Family support during transitions — concrete strategies for divorce, IEP stress, and economic pressure
  • Proactive safety protocols — clear procedures for pickup/dropoff conflicts and challenging behaviors
  • Advocacy & voice — practical tools for speaking up with policymakers, funders, and communities on behalf of children and families

We’re looking for tested, practical solutions — not theory.

What We’re Looking For

  • Immediately applicable — usable Monday morning
  • Proven — you’ve implemented it successfully
  • Practical — includes templates, checklists, or frameworks
  • Interactive — participants practice, not just listen
  • Specific expertise — you’re the person who figured this out

Session formats

Workshop — 90 minutes. Interactive by design. Plan to spend less than half your time presenting, then move into a facilitated activity where participants practice, apply, or problem-solve together. End with a concrete takeaway they leave holding.

Deep Dive — 180 minutes. For complex topics that need extended hands-on work. Same interactive expectation, with more room to build, practice, and troubleshoot.

Both formats are built around participation. Sessions that are mostly lecture aren’t a fit for these slots — attendees tell us every year they learn most when they’re doing, not just listening.

Application

Tell us about your work — that’s really it. We’re not asking for a CV, a bio, or an academic abstract. Just answer four questions:

  1. What specific problem do you solve?
  2. How do you solve it — what practical tools, templates, or frameworks do you use?
  3. Where have you implemented this successfully?
  4. Learning outcomes: what will participants be able to do after your session? (Two or three concrete outcomes.)
