The Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (which is funded by the Office of Head Start) has recently published two new resources for parents, early childhood mental health consultants, and other early childhood professionals. Now available at ECMHC.org are:
- My First Year Baby Book–a tool designed to help both providers and parents document a baby’s first year of life. The booklet can be used by providers and parents as an intentional and structured opportunity for skill building and knowledge development.
- Discovering Feelings–a booklet to assist caregivers in helping to label a young child’s feelings. This tool offers caregivers a simple way to: introduce emotional vocabulary to a child, illustrate for children a range of emotions, validate the wide range of emotions experienced by children, and assist children in linking emotional vocabulary with specific actions.
Also available online are the accompanying tips for parents, mental health consultants, and Head Start staff and consultant’s notes explaining what the tools should be used for and how to best use the booklets.
