(POPS) Scholarship

Application for the WHSA Parent Affiliate Scholarships
The WHSA Parent Scholarship is an annual scholarship funded through contributions from WHSA Affiliate members and administered by the WHSA office.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the WHSA Parent Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Current Enrollment: Be a current Early Head Start or Head Start parent or guardian (a legally responsible individual for a child) who is enrolled in or planning to attend an accredited educational institution or job training center. Proof of enrollment is required to receive the scholarship.
  • Previous Recipients: Applicants may not have previously received the POP Scholarship or any WHSA Scholarship.
  • Staff Exclusion: Current Head Start/Early Head Start staff are not eligible for the POP Scholarship. Staff members are encouraged to apply for one of the WHSA Staff Scholarships.

Letters of Recommendation

Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation:

  1. First Letter: From a Head Start staff member or program Executive Director.
  2. Second Letter: From a person of your choice, including their signature and contact information.

The letters should address the following areas:

  • Personal and professional achievements of the applicant
  • Educational and career goals
  • Involvement in Head Start and the community
  • Financial need
  • Any special circumstances or needs

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship award is $750 and can be used for course fees, books, childcare, and/or transportation. This year, two scholarships will be awarded to Head Start parents.

Selection of Award Recipients

The eligibility and selection of candidates will be determined by the WHSA Scholarship Committee. Committee members with a personal or significant relationship to an applicant will recuse themselves from the review process.

The selection will be based on:

  • Personal and professional achievements
  • Involvement in Head Start and the community
  • Financial need and any extenuating circumstances
  • Educational and career goals

Deadline: All completed applications must be submitted by Friday, May 23, 2025.
