The Milwaukee Community Literacy Project, a partnership between the Milwaukee Public Schools and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, will receive a five-year, $4.1 million development grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation, or i3, fund. The Project’s proposal was among the highest rated applications (29th) out of the almost 1,700 i3 applications submitted from across the nation.
The Milwaukee Community Literacy Project aims to improve reading proficiency for 300 struggling readers in kindergarten through 3rd grade through support across three spheres–the school sphere, the community sphere, and the family sphere–and to demonstrate an impact on improving student growth in reading for high-need students by expanding the implementation of and investment in community literacy.
