WHSA 2016 Staff Affiliate Scholarships – Deadline extended to 4/8/16
- John Erickson Memorial Scholarship (for a current staff member)
- Corrine “Corky” Mikus Memorial Scholarship (for a current staff member who is also a past or current Head Start/Early Head Start parent)
- Joyce E. Wilcox Memorial Scholarship (for a current staff member who is also a past or current Head Start/Early Head Start parent)
- WHSA Staff Affiliate Scholarship (for a current staff member)[/plain][divider]
Interested applicants are to complete all information requested on the application form. Scholarships will be determined at the WHSA Spring Quarterly Meeting.
- Each applicant must attach at least two letters of recommendation (see attached guidelines for letters of recommendation on the application)
- The Head Start/Early Head Start Program Director must also sign off on the application
- Only applications received by Thursday, March 31, 2016 will be considered timely for selection committee consideration. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 4/8/16.

JOHN ERICKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
John Erickson served as director of the Parent Child Center (PCC) and Head Start program of West Cap, Inc. for twenty-one years. John was committed to the involvement of parents in Head Start, supportive to staff, and dedicated his life to Head Start. He was instrumental in the inception of the Wisconsin Head Start Director’s Association in the early 70’s serving as Chairperson in 1977.
Who is eligible?
The John Erickson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a current Head Start employee, employed by Head Start for at least one year.
Amount of Scholarship
The scholarship award is $300. The award can be requested for course fees and books.

CORRINE “CORKY” MIKUS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The WHSA staff affiliate established the Corrine “Corky” Mikus Memorial Scholarship in 1985 in memory of Corky Mikus. Corky was a Head Start employee for the Kenosha Public School’s Head Start program prior to her death in 1984.
Who is eligible?
The Corinne “Corky” Mikus Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a current Head Start employee who is a past/current Head Start parent, employed by Head Start for at least one year.
Amount of Scholarship
The scholarship award is $300. The award can be requested for course fees, books, child care and/or transportation.[divider]
JOYCE E. WILCOX MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Joyce E. Wilcox Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000 in memory of Joyce’s dedication to Head Start. Joyce was a former director at the UW Oshkosh Head Start program prior to her death in 1994.
This annual scholarship is made possible through the generous donation of Joyce’s siblings and daughters who wish to “honor our mother and to help someone who is struggling as mom once did,” and through the WHSA Staff Affiliate Scholarship Raffle.
Who is eligible?
The Joyce E. Wilcox Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a current Head Start employee who is a past/current Head Start parent and “needs a head start” to pursue their education. The recipient must have been employed by Head Start for at least one year.
Amount of Scholarship
The scholarship award is $300. The award can be requested for course fees, books, child care and/or transportation.[divider]
STAFF AFFILIATE SCHOLARSHIP
The Staff Affiliate Scholarship is an annual scholarship made available from funds raised throughout the year by the WHSA Staff Affiliate members. The Staff Affiliate would also like to give special recognition to Lakeshore Learning Materials for their generous donation during the WHSA Annual Conference. Their generosity and support of this scholarship fund-raising raffle continues to help make this scholarship possible.
Who is eligible?
The Staff Affiliate Scholarship will be awarded to a current Head Start employee, employed by Head Start for at least one year. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who are obtaining an advanced degree (Advanced Degree is anything above an Associates) or recertification.
Amount of Scholarship
The scholarship award is $300. The award can be requested for advanced education, recertification and related expenses.
