DESCRIPTION: The Department of Public Instruction‘s Bilingual and ESL programs in the state of Wisconsin assist school districts serving students who are English language learners (ELLs) to become proficient in academic English and prepared for their continuing education, and career readiness goals. Our ELL students have over 137 identified spoken languages and are registered in 80% of the 425 school districts across Wisconsin. The theme of Thursday’s 2011 Bilingual/ESL & Title III Conference is “High Quality Instruction for ELLs.” It will feature presentations on the New ESEA Application, stakeholders meetings, group workshops, and networking opportunities. The Joint DPI/WITESOL Conference on Friday, themed “Building Academic Language Brick by Brick”, includes a keynote address by author Jeff Zwiers, exhibitors, and two concurrent sessions.
