ZERO TO THREE has developed Poverty Fact Sheet: Implications for Infants and Toddlers (May 2011) to provide an overview of poverty as it related to the healthy development of very young children.
The fact sheet addresses our understanding that one of the most consistent associations in the science of early childhood development is between economic hardship and compromised child development. Poverty can jeopardize every aspect of a child’s development, leading to short- and long-term effects on health, achievement in school, and success in life. The fact sheet succinctly explains what is meant when we talk about “poverty” and describes the risk factors and outcomes poverty has on infants and toddlers.
