In 2010, a task force made up of representative from the WI Council on Children and Families (WCCF), WI Alliance for Infant Mental Health (WI-AIMH), Celebrate Children Foundation (CCF), Supporting Families Together Association (SFTA), and WI Early Childhood Association (WECA) convened to develop recommendations for improving services to infants and toddlers and their families in our state.

The Infant/Toddler Task Force has released Recommendations for Improving Services to Infants, Toddlers and Families (Spring 2011), its report providing the Task Force’s top six recommendations for improving infant-toddler services in Wisconsin.  The report is intended to generate discussion and consideration of infant/toddler issues which are too often left out of early childhood policy deliberations.  The Task Force’s report includes the following recommendations (including the rationale for each recommendation):

  • Establish a network of infant/toddler consultants;
  • Increase child care teacher competency;
  • Expand parent engagement;
  • Expand access to infant mental health clinical treatment;
  • Expand evidence-based home visiting; and
  • Ensure continuity of care.
