Tuesday, May 3, 2011 is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day! Communities around the country will participate by holding their own Awareness Day events.
National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day is part of the Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health public awareness initiative by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of children’s mental health and that positive mental health is essential to a child’s healthy development from birth. This year, the theme for National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day focuses on building resilience in young children dealing with trauma.
As part of this effort, the Wisconsin Alliance for Infant Mental Health (WI-AIMH) has prepared a Child Mental Health Awareness Packet which is helpful for community outreach and education. The resources included in the information packet will help you promote general awareness and the importance of the mental health of infants, children, and teens.
