The Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI) has updated its Teaching Tools for Young Children (TTYC) with challenging behaviors to included strategies and materials for use with toddlers.
TTYC gives teachers practical strategies (developed from TACSEI’s research activities and experiences in Positive Behavior Support) to create plans to support young children who have challenging behaviors which include prevention, intervention, and response strategies. TTYC provides:
- Easily accessible ideas and materials–handouts, worksheets, techniques, strategies, and visuals–to support children in the classroom and other learning environments, and
- Ideas of effective intervention approaches for children who do not need a functional assessment to determine the function of the child’s problem behavior or a team-based process to address persistent challenging behavior.
TTYC are organized around a User’s Manual and also include a Routine Based Support Guide which accompanies all of the tools and is based in the routines and activities that typically occur in early childhood programs. The Guide will assists teachers to develop a child’s support plan. The updated toddler materials offer an expanded manual for using TTYC with toddlers, a decision tree, forms for teaming, tips for consultation to the classroom, and guidance on assessing implementation and outcomes.
