The U.S. House of Representatives proposed legislation (H.R. 1) that would cut funding to Head Start by 22.4% . In Wisconsin, at least 785 jobs and more than 2,822 children and their families could be cut from Head Start and Early Head Start!!
Ask your members of Congress to oppose cuts that will hurt children in your community and across the nation. Because this is pending legislation you must make contact on your own time without the use of program resources.
The House could vote on this bill as early as today, tomorrow, Thursday . . . ACT NOW! On Monday, more than 10,000 emails were sent from our Head Start community. We must keep the pressure on and get the word heard . . . don’t cut Head Start! Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to spread the word too.
To contact your members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation go to NHSA’s Support Head Start website and type in your zip code. You’ll be directed to a ready-to-go letter that you can add to and personalize, if you’d like. These letters will go to both of Wisconsin’s Senators–Herb Kohl and Ron Johnson–as well as your member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
