The National Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (NCRECE) recently published “Readiness for School Involves and Array of Skills: Let’s Not Forget Fine Motor Development” in its July 2010 issue of In Focus (vol. 1, no. 5). The article highlights two studies that confirm the value of broad, comprehensive early childhood education curricula to children’s later academic success and the importance of children’s fine motor skills and early understanding of their world as school readiness indicators. Contained in the brief article are additional key findings and ways to link the discussed research to practical application.
NCRECE, based at the University of Virginia, focuses on conducting research, disseminating research findings, and carrying out leadership activities aimed at improving the quality of early childhood education across the United States.
