Yesterday, the House Labor, HHS, Education and Related Agencies appropriations subcommittee held its mark-up for the FY2011 Appropriations bill. The bill provides $176.4 billion in discretionary spending for the Labor, HHS, and Education department as well as other related agencies.
The mark-up cleared the subcommittee on a partisan 11-5 vote and is pending full Appropriations committee mark-up and approval.
The overall bill is approximately $1.5 billion dollars less than the President’s Budget request. The mark-up appropriates $8.1 million to Head Start & Early Head Start–an increase of $866 million from FY 2010 and $124 million less than the President’s FY 2011 budget request. It appears that the subcommittee mark would provide sufficient funding to sustain the gains Head Start & Early Head Start made as a result of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA) which funded program expansion.
