Join Wisconsin Head Start Association on September 28th for another excellent professional development and training event. The 2018 Transportation Summit will be held at CESA 11 in Turtle Lake, WI and will feature a variety of educated and knowledgeable presenters.
Abbi Kruse will kick off the training with The Bus Driver Says: “I love you.” introducing the principles of Conscious Discipline and how classroom structures can be easily adapted for use on the bus. Prior to founding and becoming the executive director of The Playing Field, Abbi served in a variety of ECE settings including the University of Wisconsin Preschool Lab, Head Start, and community-based programs. She is also a Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor and travels throughout the country providing professional development for early educators.
Beth Tilleson and Mona Karau will present The 3 P’s of Head Start Transportation focusing on performance standards, parent interactions, and the personal side of Head Start Transportation. Outside of her work as the Co-Director at CESA 11, Beth Tilleson is the Co-Chair for the WHSA Annual Conference Steering committee, Vice-President of the WHSA Director’s Affiliate, and esteemed member and Secretary of the Wisconsin Head Start Association Board of Directors. Mona Karau is the Transportation Manager at CESA 11. She brings with her years of experience from the front lines of Head Start Transportation.
Charles Miller will wrap up the event with Defensive Driving – The Skills that Set Us Apart in Child Education and Transportation. This 4+ hour session on defensive driving and pre-departure inspection will include a brief lecture on on-boarding, off-boarding, and safety during transportation will also be included. This training is sanctioned by the National Safety Council and, upon completion, includes a certificate of attendance that has the possibility to discount insurance for both the program and the individual attending the training. Charles is currently the acting President of the Greater Milwaukee Safety Counsel as well as being a practiced and accomplished presenter and transportation Guru.
This training is geared toward Head Start Transportation Managers, Drivers and Monitors and will address issues of best practices with an emphasis on safety.
Participants will identify:
- components of rules that ensure safety in transportation services.
- defensive driving strategies key to safety.
- strategies to respond appropriately to behavior issues in young children.
- what to look for on the road and how to react to difficult road situations.
- correct methods of on-boarding/off-boarding students.
- correct procedures of pre-trip inspection and the effects of having a DOT # on your vehicle.
$75 per participant. $50 per participant for groups of 5 or more. Lunch will be included.
