Race to the Top Mini-Grant Opportunities!

Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Community Approach (4KCA) Mini-Grants



Support community exploration to improve four-year-old kindergarten community approach (4KCA) implementation, expand services as per Head Start duration performance standards, improve YoungStar ratings, and/or increase quality in program partnerships.



An individual sponsorship cannot exceed $1,500.  Funds can cover: facilitator, meeting space, substitutes for participants, materials and/or speakers. Funds cannot be used for food.  Funds are provided through the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant, 4KCA and YoungStar Project.



An application must have a commitment from two of these partners: a school district implementing or exploring 4KCA; a Head Start Grantee; and/or Child Care Center Director.

The event must occur before Oct 31, 2017 and be invoiced by November 15, 2017.

The DPI 4K Funding Guide revision will be provided as a resource. It will include potential planning and budgeting activities. While the activities are not required, we will seek feedback on the applicability of the document to these planning events.

A condition of receiving the funds, all recipients will participate in one or two phone calls with DPI staff to review progress, lessons learned, , and share challenges.


Eligible Applicants:

Applicants must be sponsoring a planning event to address the purpose stated above.

Applicants can be one of the partnering agency listed above or may be a regional organization such as a CESA or Resource and Referral Agency.


Additional Funds:

Applicants may be eligible to receive additional funding in the fall to purchase professional development materials or classroom equipment to improve quality and support.
